Greenblatt, Miriam. War of 1812, Edited by John S. Bowman. New York: Facts on File Inc, 2003. The author of this book, Miriam Greenblatt, states her thesis at the end of her preface. She states that “The converse is that readers of this volume should bring more perspectives than ever to the War of 1812.” This book has an older edition, but she mentions how this edition is more up to date and offers different tools to help appeal to all readers. She does this by offering illustrations and maps, a recommended reading list, and a glossary of words. This, along with many other facts about what is different and added into this newer edition of the book is all stated in the preface. Her main topics discussed in this book focus on what lead to the war, as well as different perspectives that are seen throughout. The facts included can be used to keep the reader more interested and give them a wider view of how intense the battles were, and expand perspectives. Another strong point was how the story was told. She chose a more story-telling like writing style that made it less of a fact-based book, and more of a story loaded with different facts. Also, she included pictures and maps at visuals to help the readers understand even more of what the people talked about looked like, and what the journeys and travels looked like on a map. Because of this, she could prove her case that she stated in her thesis. With the facts and perspectives included, anyone reading this book, can see the points of view of not just the American’s side, but many others as well. She could open all sides of the story and make it easier for others to understand and relate to, making her points strong and her case
