The Treaty of Ghent stated that all conquered land was to be returned to its owner and that it settled the boundary dispute between Canada and Great Britain. Even though the Treaty was signed, there was still evidence that America could not let the past go. Because there was not a decisive winner, the Americans thought that they were the better country. It is noted that “British visitors were complaining that they had to endure such boastful claims that Andrew Jackson was a greater general than the Duke of Wellington” (Page 154.)
