According to the Jefferson Monticello website, “Jefferson did not always succeed in lessening the violence of slavery. Several slaves were whipped at the hands of Monticello overseers.” Many people believe that based on this he was a cruel and violent man. However, Thomas Jefferson has done many other great things that impacted our country like writing the Declaration of Independence and by influencing our federal government. According to the Library of Congress website, “ Jefferson played a major role in the planning, design, and construction of a national capitol and the federal district.” He has greatly influenced us to become the country we are today. The many great points show that Thomas Jefferson was truly a great president. He bought the Louisiana Territory in the Louisiana Purchase and made sure America was safe for its citizens. He may have held slaves, but his accomplishments strongly outdo his mistakes. Thomas Jefferson has definitely impacted and influenced our society to make it become what it is today. Overall, Thomas Jefferson’s accomplishments prove that he should be considered one of the greatest presidents in United States
