Sir John Thursby Community College is an oversubscribed 11-16 college with a staff team committed to providing the very best teaching and extra-curricular opportunities for all of our students.
We are always looking to improve and we work closely with our community partners to serve them and meet their needs. We have close links with local primary schools and Sixth Form Colleges, to whom we supply some of our teaching staff. Our partner school from Germany visited us in September to meet their pen pals in Year 11 with whom they had been exchanging correspondence for many years.
Sir John Thursby Community College is proud to host the first Job Junction in the country. Our team of students has been trained by experienced recruitment staff to research and apply for real jobs and to help their fellow students to do the same. We also advertise real vacancies in College so that students can find out about the opportunities available and the grades they will need for different jobs and College places. The Job Junction runs on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. We also have a Church group every Monday and prayers every Friday in the centre of the College.
All of our students who left last year had a place in employment, education or training but we want to maintain this by ensuring all students achieve as much as possible and developing our links with businesses. Our Business Class programme involves a range of business mentors who help each student to research their chosen career and learn the skills needed in their profession.
We are preparing many students in all years to apply to university and last year our students visited Cambridge University and Leeds University while Oxford University came to us to encourage our students to apply. We also have links with UCLan and Manchester University. Cambridge University
