I was have a nostalgic day recently, so I pulled out my old ICarly DVD, and watched the first episode. And holy crap, was I shocked!
The whole premise of the show is based off the fact that they called their teachers soggy boobs “waffle cones”.
I can’t imagine the outrage there would be if that aired today!
Learning “bad” or “dirty” things :
Back when I was a kid (8 or 9), I used to sing dirty songs all the time, granted I didn’t know what they meant.
But, nobody stopped me until they explained to me why I shouldn’t say those things. Today, I have seen teacher and parents shoot down kids who are singing these songs that they really don’t understand, without any further explanation.
Same things with bad words. If a child comes and asks you what a bad word is, nowadays the instinct leans towards saying: …show more content…
This is creating a generation of sheltered kids that are going to have a hard time adjusting to adult life, in my opinion.
Using MySpace:
I mean… if you use MySpace, I think society views that as pretty unacceptable.
Not having social media:
Up util I was in 6th grade, I had no interest in social media, and that is because up until then there was not pressure to! In fact, people often viewed the internet as a scary place full of bad people up until this point.
But, something around 2010–2011 changed, and all of a sudden it was unacceptable to not have a social media.
People thought you were hiding something, or simply a loser.
Just going to over to a friends house:
I feel as though as I’ve gotten older, parents have gotten about 10,000 times more paranoid.
When I was younger I feel as though I could ask to go over to a friends house, and they would say yes, and they would take me, or even let me walk if it was close
