Baltimore's Inner Harbor waterwheel collected a record amount of trash and debris. Coming in at 19 tons in a 24 hour period, which was 6.5 dumpsters full. The trash is collected at the water wheel before it moves into the Inner Harbor and out into the Ocean. Keeping our Ocean's cleaner at the source, rather than once it has already joined other floating debris to form a garbage patch.

The Canton Water wheel consists of two booms stretched out along the Jones Falls Tributary, these booms channel floating debris and direct them to a raking system and then onto a solar powered conveyor belt. At a major tributary of Baltimore's Inner Harbor lies a trash collecting barge that runs off of solar power and water current. The Canton Water Wheel was designed to be mostly self sustaining, only needing the floating dumpster that holds the trash to be swapped out periodically. Resembling a covered wagon attached to an old fashioned paddle boat wheel, the contraption operates at a capacity at 25 tons of trash removed per day.
