The documentary, We Feed the World, directed by Erwin Wagenhofer looks to bring light to the current situation of the worldwide epidemic regarding world hunger. Showing the culture and means of production in various nations across the world as contributing factors to this problem. In the film, an interview with Jean Ziegler, leader in food production, discusses the high amount of food waste and industrialization of the food industries being seen throughout the world. The problem of world hunger in the film is seen a problem through the greed of the societies with money and their stance on the matter. The theme present during the film remains the problem of distribution and not solely in the production. The scene in which tomatoes are sent across large areas of land in a cheap and effect manor provides an adequate example of the distribution problem being a choice rather than a problem of accessibility. The film makes a point of countries could work together to provide for countries that can not provide for their citizens on their own. In Brazil, they showed people who had no access to water or food and their governments not aiding these people. While international collations of countries could easily work together to aid the country, they choose not to because they feel they need to help their own people before helping others. While the United States is not exclusively a country doing this, they produce enough food to feed their entire nation and are able to help others. The film implies countries could work together to solve this collective action problem; with large corporations looking to maximize profits and avoiding giving back, solving the problem of world hunger does not seem to be coming to
