Speech Title: Technology & How we communicate
General Purpose: To inform.
Specific Purpose: To inform about evolution of technology from past, present and upcoming future.
Introduction:
A. Attention Getter: The attention getter is a video.
Use a famous quotation; tell a story, real or hypothetical; pose questions, rhetorical or directed; make a startling statement; use suspense; make a personal reference; use humor
B. Thesis Statement: Technology effects how we as a people communicate as a society stemming from texting and driving to the notifications that distract us while at work & school, technology has become a burden as well as a convenience.
Body:
A. Main Point #1: Communication Methods
1. Land line- Starting right before the 90’s land lines became specific to each household as the normal way to communicate across distances. Of course there were the always dependable payphones in case of emergencies.
2. Pager/Beeper- These were portable devices used to give you a number, and that’s it. This number was used for emergencies, or contacting you to go to the phone that paged you. Unless it was your business pager. If that were the case, your probably being called into work.
B. Main Point #2: Communication Method Nowadays
Email – The email message is replacing handwritten correspondence in business and personal interactions. People can send an email message and quickly get a response whereas sending other written correspondence may require a longer turnaround time.
Social Networking Sites – Such as Myspace and Facebook allow people to communicate with friends, family, colleagues and even complete strangers in an online forum. Many businesses today use social networking sites to enhance their online presence and increase revenue.
C. Main Point #3 Negative Aspects of Technology
A. People can easily stay up at night because technology is always available and able to distract us.
B. People willingly spend all their time and money of electronics, instead of personal social interactions.
Conclusion:
A. Technology effects how we as a people communicate as a society. We suffer from texting and driving to letting notifications distract us while at work & school. Technology has become a burden as well as a convenience.
B. Summary: Communication is an essential part of life. The ability to communicate clearly and effectively is one of the skills that business look for in employees. The use of technology can be a great help in communicating. Reducing the time it takes. But technology can have consequences of reducing person to person interaction without the device as an intermediary.
