Wellbeing reflection “Wellbeing is about the combination of our love for what we do each day, the quality of our relationships, the security of our finances, the vibrancy of our physical health, and the pride we take in what we have contributed to our communities.” The co-authors, Tom Rath and Jim Harter, of the book, Wellbeing, made this statement above. What it seems like they are trying to say is that wellbeing is a manifestation of our love for life and our response towards that love should be out of a desire to produce a life of wellness. The authors called these the “universal elements of wellbeing that differentiate a thriving life from one spent suffering.” This measurable list consists of the following categories: career wellbeing, social wellbeing, financial wellbeing, physical wellbeing and finally community wellbeing. The number one issue in front of society is their own selves. Short-term decisions so often override our beneficial long-term plans. For example, in light of physical wellbeing one French fry won’t cause a heart attack so we eat that fry instead of a healthier alternative. In light of social wellbeing, we don’t spend quality time with our friends building relationships. Instead we sit on our phones and play video games other than investing in relationships and getting to know the person on a deeper level. Personal finances are a relatable way too. The short-term buying “fun” things is a great way to enjoy the present but investing in a retirement plan is so much more helpful for the long-term final goal.
