In the book Seedfolks, by Paul Fleischman, Wendell is a middle aged man whose sadness is reduced when he starts helping a young girl grow her seed in a garden. Wendell’s son and wife recently died, and he is easily scared after experiencing these two tragic loss. One day, Ana (Wendell’s neighbor) invites Wendell to her apartment to tell him about Kim’s garden. Since Wendell used to be a farmer, he soon decided to help Kim with her garden, which helps him overcome his own griefs.
