In many English classes, especially high school level courses, students are taught to elaborate almost excessively, but in the opinion of George Orwell, he would much rather these students be taught that overly vivid elaboration is unnecessary. If Orwell were to examine the Mission Statement of West Texas A&M, he would notice that phrases such as, “West Texas A&M is a diverse and inclusive student-centered community of learners that: cultivates opportunities to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills…” could be cut down to more a direct and appealing sentence.
