a. Describe the central focus and purpose of the content you will teach in the learning segment.
[ The central focus of the learning segment is food and beverage, and the purpose of the content is to develop students’ communicative proficiency on topic of ordering food and beverage in Chinese. The learning goal for this unit is that students should be able to initiate a conversation to order desired amounts of food as well as drink with certain size and degree of temperature after reading the menu. They will also be able to solve a complex situation by offering a reasonable solution when they are eating at a Chinese restaurant in spoken language.

During the learning segment, students will be required to conduct an oral survey among their peers in class, during which they will need to ask or answer questions to acquire information of Chinese or American people’s eating and drinking habits for breakfast by applying the new language forms they just learned as well as the ones they learned earlier (e.g. 蛋炒饭、热豆浆、冰牛奶). These interactions required in this task can help to promote interpersonal communication among students.
