Accomplishments in politics, Roman expansion, government, and internal peace are but a few of the greatest Octavian Augustus achievements. These accomplishments were attained while being arguably the greatest builder of the Roman Empire. Administration and maintenance of these accomplishments essentially created the job of emperor for Augustus. Although Augustus list of accomplishments is accurate, in some sense it could be viewed as propaganda because it’s a self authored document promoting his own achievements. Regardless of Augustus’ self promotion within the Res Gestae, he was still recognized as a good and successful ruler. As stated throughout this list of accomplishments, Augustus seems to put his money where his heart is, the Roman Republic. More importantly, as Augustus matures and wages wars throughout the world he assimilates the defeated peoples in a somewhat amenable manner, when they are accepting of defeat. He does this by using citizenship to create bonds with captured areas, which was hugely successful for him as well as creating good will. As a result of this successful recipe for expansion, Augustus recognizes some twenty-eight significant colonies he establishes throughout the world. Turning down the offered dictatorship is another indicator of the good will and success he enjoyed with his subjects. Augustus didn’t need the rights and privileges of a Dictator, he maintained, ruled and expanded successfully without the title. Augustus mentions no less than five occasions when he contributes his personal money to the state beyond those contributions at age nineteen. Four contributions to the treasury and one to the
