Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a civil rights leader for thirteen years, from 1955 until 1968. He lead movements in the late ‘50s and ‘60s for legal equality. Dr. King was born on January 5, 1929 and was assassinated on the evening of April 4, 1968. He was the youngest man to ever receive the Nobel Peace Prize at age thirty-five. Some of his important achievements were: In 1957, he was elected president of the SCLC, in 1965, the Voting Rights Act was passed and Dr. King lead the AL March of Voting Rights to gain this right, and between 1956 and 1968, Dr. King started to focus more on economic justice.
