Ronald Wilson Reagan was born to Jack and Nelle Reagan on February 6, 1911 in Tampico, Illinois. The family consisted of dad, mom, Ronald, and his older brother, Neil. His father was a shoe salesman. As a baby, Reagan’s father nicknamed him “Dutch” because he believed he looked like a “fat little dutchman.” They lived in a small apartment without running water and indoor plumbing. He came from very humble beginnings. He attended Dixon High School in Dixon, Illinois, in 1920. He was quite the athlete, held a school elected position, student body president, and he participated in school plays. Upon high school graduation, he attended Eureka College where he continued his athletic career. He was a captain on the swim team, he ran track, and he played football. He continued in his leadership roles as well. He was elected to the office of student council president and also acted in school productions. He graduated in 1932.
His first real job was a radio announcer in the state of Iowa. He continued in this line of work and in 1937 while covering baseball spring training, he did a screen test for the Warner Brothers. This was the beginning of his Hollywood career. Over the next thirty years he appeared in over 50 movies.

He was able to appointed more than half the federal judiciary and even was able to appoint three new justices to the Supreme Court: Those justices were Sandra Day O’Connor, who just happened to be the first woman appointed to the Supreme Court, Anthony Kennedy, and Antonin Scalia. He was also able to promote William Rehnquist to chief justice in 1986 once Warren Burger retired. These appointments were not just important during Reagan’s terms of office but provided a lasting legacy for his presidency.
