On Martha Reed’s journey, she faced many hardships. One of the hardships she faced was when she was on Green River. Her mother and sister were both sick and she had to do the cooking and watch after her baby sister. She said there wasn't much to cook because they didn’t have a lot of food. Another problem Martha and her family faced was that her father only had one wagon and he couldn't haul all of the provisions. A man had some provisions to sell, but they were priced very high and Martha’s father could not afford them. They did not have enough money. Martha said “as a result we went hungry a good deal of the time.”
