Symbolism is often used in literature, in A Raisin in the sun we could observe how “Eat your Eggs” and Beneatha’s Hair discussion with Asagai and George mean a lot more than just what it appears to be. The most obvious form of symbolism is Mama’s plant, in both the play and film version the plant represents Mama’s hope and desire for her family to emerge from their poor living conditions to a house where Walter and Ruth would be able to raise a family and Mama to get her garden, as she loves plants. Mama sees the plant as an form of expression “It expresses ME”, she indicates, when Beneatha asks if she's going to take the plant home, Mama’s care for the plant shows how much she valorizes it, and how she wishes it will prosper just as her life,
