In Kafka’s "The Metamorphosis" Gregor stopped being Gregor when he realized he was nothing but a hindrance for his family. Before that his behaviors are very human. When the metamorphosis first happened Gregor does not spend time reflecting on his change; he just keeps on going with his life and attempts to work. For most of the story he fought his new animal instincts. He wanted to still be able to care for his family even though he was a spider. This is evidenced by the struggle he went through to make his voice sound normal and attempt to reason with his employer’s head clerk.
