Humanity has come far in its enthralling endeavours and achievements, and without it, the greatest revolutions in society would not be possible. Being human, we may pursue our own desires to the point that it becomes a fruitless chase, and we will still continue to go after it. There is no book that portrays humanity and its determination, better than Ernest Hemingway’s, The Old Man and The Sea. This brilliant classic novel follows the story of Santiago, a Cuban fisherman who has gone eighty-four days without catching a single fish. Despite this, he still goes out to the sea everyday in hopes of finally catching one. He will seek out to catch a fish no matter the circumstances. The plot revolves around his battle to capture the marlin, in which he holds tight onto the rope binding the marine creature for three days. He even says to the marlin: “Fish, I'll stay with you until I am dead”. The Old Man and The Sea is still relevant in our society, where it perfectly recounts the determination of humanity, and our need to persevere through our difficulties in order to achieve what we have set out for. Great achievements and human endeavours have been achieved in our age, and have only been possible through unfaltering determination. This book holds core values that are important to humans, which help us to drive forward in every
