According to Oxford Dictionaries humor is the quality of being amusing or comic, especially as expressed in literature or speech. But the question that comes to mind is there only one specific type of humor? Humor can be categorized in several different categories’. For instance, there is black humor, political humor, sketch comedy, and insiders. But there is one type of humor that stands out which is ethnic humor. Ethnic humor can be identified as humor or comedy jokes that are based on ideas, beliefs or stereotypes about racial or ethnic groups. The big question is think humor a negative thing or is there actually benefits towards racial humor and the effects of one’s tendency to discriminate against others? When people hear about ethnic humor the first thing that might go through their mind will be like racist jokes or racist stereotypes. …show more content…
The negative effects of ethnic humor have been noted by a variety of researchers (Boskin 1987; Harris 1999; Doloff 1998; Biling 2005) (Cundall Pg.156). These researchers came to a conclusion that humor is joy and laughing at something funny. While racial humor it can be used to create hard in both insidious and directs ways (Cundall Pg. 156). For example, if a racial joke is said or heard the person who heard it or was told this particular person could hurt them emotionally, but the harm is perpetuated if the joke reinforces an existing negative stereotype which then does further hard to both the individual and to the other individuals who are affiliated with the targeted group (Cundall
