JFK’s first speech he gave as president brought America closer together as something incredible and unimaginable. He gave his inauguration address on January 20, 1961 at the Eastern Portico of the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. when became the 35th President of the U.S.A.. “We observe today not a victory of party, but a celebration of freedom…” (JFK). Today, many people have lost sight of this. They see it as good versus bad instead of backing whomever is chosen as our leader, and sticking together as a nation. The struggle for power, and the title as president is what drives many politics today. JFK addressed this, but was speaking of the past, which goes to show how the past can repeat itself. “-and to remember that, in the past, those who foolishly sought power by riding the back of the tiger ended up inside.”(JFK) This style and word choice created a metaphor that brought an entire new meaning to be consumed by power, and losing one’s self in the “tiger” or the strife for a name that will go down in history. Many people comment about how the leaders of those days were “old fashioned,” but the inspiration that JFK gave to America in his inaugural address is exactly what our country is dire need of today.
JFK demonstrated how he was fit to be President of the greatest country in the world. Everything he did made America grow together as a peaceful nation. Even when he passed away, the nation clung to his words and turned to one another for comfort and reassurance.
