Source A is the amphitheatre in Pompeii and is a primary source. In ancient times, the amphitheatre would have been used for sports, gladiatorial contests and spectacles drawing large crowds. The seating area was split into areas due to social class which gives historians an idea of social structure within Pompeii. From this source, historians can also gain an estimate of the population of the city as well as popular leisure activities. The amphitheatre of Pompeii can be considered reliable as its purpose can be confirmed through graffiti and artwork throughout the city as well as similar constructions right through the Roman empire. There are no obvious problems with this source or questions of bias as this source is one widely reproduced
