1. A way that the novel fits the description of magical realism is because in the novel it talks about curanderas and brujas. Antonio in the novel says “Ultima was a curandera, a woman who knew the herbs and remedies of the ancients” (Pg4). Curanderas and brujas were from a period of time, where the curanderas were mistaken as brujas and contributed at witchcraft.

In the novel the archetypes that I could comprehend and identify were that the Luna family represented Hispanic side and religious, while on the other hand the Marez Family represented a very English side and was more of the risk- taking side.
