“The Great Gatsby”, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald is one of his best pieces of literature that made its mark on American academia following the years after World War II. The irony behind this novel is Fitzgerald believed he was a failure as a writer when “The Great Gatsby” received mixed reviews, and sold unsuccessfully as he died in 1940. However this novel has seen its renewal during World War II, and the years after that it became a staple in American Literature. This fictional drama novel has been ranked among the greats as it was even considered a contender for the title of “Great American Novel”. Nick Carraway is the first person narrator as he tells the story of a young millionaire that he encountered after moving into the West Egg from the Midwest. Nick tells the events he witnessed while living in New York which surrounded the wealthy such as his cousin Daisy Buchanan and her husband Tom, his mistress Myrtle, Jordan, a girl he meets at a party, and Jay Gatsby who he has come to view as a good friend, the mysterious millionaire who throws extravagant parties every weekend. As Nick continues narrating his story, he describes the incidents that occur: extramarital affairs, deceit, betrayal, and acts of vengeance that led to an unjustified tragedy that can’t be undone. Ultimately, the conclusion to his storytelling ends with him moving back home to the Midwest to escape the disillusioned experiences he has dealt with during his time in the East
