The strategic impactfulness of Greens Speech.
During the Civil War, Alfred M. Green delivered a speech in Philadelphia in April 1861, which served to get African Americans to join the Union army, which they were banned from doing before the Emancipation Proclamation. Through rhetorical language, a blend of patriotic and religious appeals, Green persuaded his fellow African Americans to take up arms for the cause of freedom and equality.
