Lumber played a crucial role in Minnesotas history. The whole lumber production business started in 1839 when the first sawmill went up near Stillwater on the St.Croix River. Weyerhaeuser bought and invested money into the White Pines in Wisconsin. But later when they ran out of white pine, he turned his head to Minnesota. Then, in 1890, when Frederick Weyerhaeuser and his parents bought more than 200,000 acres of forest in the central part of the state. Flour is an amazing role and big part of Minnesota's history for a couple of reasons… Minnesota has a large amount of trees. One of the best trees in Minnesota was the White Pine. They grew to be up to 150 feet tall. They had no branches and they were very strong, and reliable for construction.
