The 31st President of the United States President from 1929 - 1933, Was Herbert Clark Hoover. He was born in Iowa in 1891, and was the son of a blacksmith. He graduated and got a degree in mining. He and his wife, Lou Henry got married and decided to move to China. In June 1900, the Boxer Rebellion, a political uprising in protest of increasing foreign influence in China, reached the settlement where the Hoovers were living. There were other foreigners living there and many people were being attacked. While his wife worked in the hospitals aiding people, Hoover directed the building of walls to protect the settlement.
