The key question ‘What were the roles of Viking Women, attitudes and beliefs towards them and explain how they were motivated to convert to Christianity’ can be broken into sub-questions that can be answered using primary and secondary sources. The first sub-question is ‘What were the roles of Viking women in the 8th-11th century in Scandinavia?’ The second sub-question is ‘What were the attitudes and beliefs towards Viking women’s roles and freedoms in 8th-11th century Scandinavia?’ Sub-question three is ‘What values and motives influenced the Viking women to convert to Christianity?’ Six sources were analysed to answer questions which contained key historical concepts such as attitudes and beliefs mentioned in sub question two as well as …show more content…
The historical concept of values could have been added, which would further examine how women were important to society. Firstly, research conducted for sub-question one included one primary source and two primary sources. The primary source, ‘Vikings at Home’ illustrates three Viking Women performing domestic duties which verifies the information found in the supporting secondary sources. The limitation to source is that it may be interpreted differently by the audience due to it being a painting. All of the sources used, intended to inform and educate the audience. The secondary source, ‘The Roles of Women in Viking Society’ is a credible source written by William Short. Short is a graduate researcher specialising in Viking weapons, society and practices, he has a PhD from MIT. The information within this source is highly relevant to the question and useful to corroborate the primary source. In addition, the secondary source ‘Women and weapons in the Viking World’ is a highly credible, but somewhat useful
