I think the main point Socrates was trying to make when speaking with the Oracle is that prior to speaking with him he had no wisdom at all; that he wasn’t the wisest in Athens. He explains that he did attempt to prove him wrong by going from man to man to determine if there was another man wiser then he. He makes a point to say that he spoke to many different caliber of men such as a politician, poet, and artisan; whom we must assume to be wise, only to find out that they were not as wise as expected. After speaking to many men, Socrates concluded that they appear to be wise but in truth not know anything at all.
I believe he tells us this story so that we can see that he did give many men the opportunity to prove the Oracle wrong. That
