There many differences between the movie and book when it comes to “Where the Red Fern Grows.” These differences include different emotions that Billy has, his lessons with grandpa, and the symbolism behind the smallest thing. When it comes to complexity the book rules over the movie only because of the different values the book brings to us.

There are many different emotions between the book and the movie. There are also different ways the characters act. Most of the differences are with Billy. In the movie billy doesn’t have a strong determination for for is dogs in a way that he doesn’t throw as many fits for them. In the book Billy would have done anything for the dogs. Also in the book there was the add where he started his determination for the hounds. Billy in the book at the end where is hounds died he acted like part of of his life was goon, but in the movie he was less emotional. Most importantly Billy showed much more connotation towards the hounds in the book then in the movie. Billy also as a more maturity level as the story continues in the book. In the movie the level stays the same. The emotion are one of the important parts of the story.

In the book Grandpa gave billy talks about the coons and how to get one to train the dog. In the movie that never happens. Grandpa in both the book and the movie tells billy that everyone should cop down a big tree in there life. Grandpa also shows Billy how to make a scarecrow so that he could go eat his dinner. In the book grandpa never gives billy any lessons on how to trap a coon or the build the scarecrow.
