Whitney Houston
On August 9, 1963 Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born (Hepperman 16). Whitney was a star; from the day, she was born until the day she died. She had made a career doing modeling, singing, and acting. She was a phenomenal singer. Whitney had a wide range of listeners and she produced musical genres like, “…pop, R&B, soul, and adult contemporary” (Hepperman 29). Whitney’s songs helped her create a successful career. Mark Bego states that, “Billboard …ranked Whitney Houston and her recordings on sixteen on its “Top” listings.” Everyone loved Whitney, including her fans, family, and many celebrities. While attending a fashion show, with her mother, she was approached and asked if she had ever considered modeling. After Whitney signed with a modeling agency. According to Hepperman, Whitney had “began traveling…. for magazines, such as Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Glamour, and Seventeen” (21). Although Whitney’s modeling career had taken off, she still, very much, wanted to sing. Whitney was offered many recording contracts, during her teen years, but her parents insisted that she waited until she graduated high school (Norment). Once Whitney had graduated high school she was ready to sign with a record company. Whitney had signed with record company A&R in 1983. Clive Davis, head of A&R, had begun helping her become the star she was meant to be, by taking control of her career (Browne). When Whitney’s debut album came out in 1985, four songs from the album hit number one in pop. Later, her second album had the same success. After Whitney’s second album she took started taking control of her career, and began writing her own songs from her experiences. “Whitney had lived these songs” (Waldron).
