Social class is a subject in our society that no one feels comfortable discussing or talking about mostly to avoid judgment from others. However, it is an important aspect in how we inhabit our society especially when it comes to an individual's upward mobility. In this essay, we are going to examine works by Martin Espada and Lois Ann Yamanaka for us to explore and understand upward mobility.
Espada’s poem, "Who Burns for the Perfection of Paper", shows a young man who is trying to work his way up from a plant that manufacturers legal pads to law school. We see an individual who acquired a job that is seemingly self explanatory; one that does not require him to possess good education or critical thinking skills. The quote
