Astrid was an ordinary girl with her best friend Nicole. She went to a Roller Derby race in which she had never seen before. She got a flier there, which had an ad about a summer program for Roller Derby. In that moment, Astrid knew she was going to be a roller girl. In that moment, Astrid knew she was going to be "a roller girl"(Astrid, pg 25). She had to escape the war in Afghanistan and cross the border to Quetta. She had to find a way to cross the border because the guards wouldn't let anyone pass by. Ahmedi had to also keep her mother alive as she was suffering a severe case of Asthma. She met Ghulam Ali who helped cross the border.
