Scoliosis is a medical condition in which a person's spinal axis has a three-dimensional deviation. King Richard III had this disease for basically his entire life. This caused one shoulder higher than the other. Also this caused him to have arthritis in his spine which increased his liability on his back. This also limited his endurance due to his ribcage not being able to expand to allow more oxygen to come into his lungs. However, this was seemingly an obstacle that he was able to overcome and be able to do all the duties as a king due this time period. His severe scoliosis is the most interesting thing that scientists have learned from King Richard III because of the ability he had to be effective on the battlefield. During the Battle of Bosworth Field he led a heavy cavalry charge into the forces of Henry Tudor. He continued to fight until his death at the battle. He is said in history that he killed many opposing soldiers until he died. King Richard III was able to overcome his disability to fight in the battle
