However, when she was 14 years old, she was married off to Louis-Auguste, the heir to the French throne. The French Republic was formed and the royal family was put in jail. King Louis XVI was executed for treason in January 1793, shortly after they were arrested. Marie was taken to court for treason and theft. She was then accused of sexual abuse to her own son, which was not true. Most of the reasons she was sent to be executed were false rumors, however, on October 16, 1793, she was sent to the guillotine. Her riches and luxuries were beyond comprehension and she was an educated woman. Though she was a famous person and had it all, Marie was flawed, like everyone else.
