Syd Solomon was born near Uniontown, Pennsylvania in 1917. Between the years of 1935 and 1938 he studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and was later enlisted into the army in 1941. Since he was an artist, he was trained in creating camouflage which, along with aerial reconnaissance, influenced his ideas about abstract art. After Solomon’s service ended in 1945, he attended sessions at L’Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. During this time, he utilized aerosol sprays and resists on large canvases which reflected his experience with aerial camouflage. Amongst many other exhibitions, Solomon’s work is on display in the Greenville County Museum of Art from August 26, 2016 to December 31, 2016. The exhibit itself is formally named Syd Solomon: Concealed
