In the short story, The Veldt, the main antagonists emerge to be the parents, for various reasons.

This is demonstrated when the parents first got their children into the nursery, which can transform to any environment you could ever wish for. For reference, this house is fully automated. Even though this seems like a good idea at first, children at this small age have a crazy mindset. The parents finally realize they're messing up, so they state.
