Maya and Miguel depict a successful Hispanic family. Arthur showed two male characters getting married. My personal favorite, Wordgirl, is a brown-skinned girl hero. I resonated with this show the most from anything else I have watched. Wordgirl was an alien that made her way into life. Similar to me and my family who are labeled as aliens even in official documents despite being citizens. Wordgirl had a “superior intellect” as she used her vast vocabulary to fight crime. I would always have her theme song stuck in my head whenever I got to the top of my elementary school classes despite what my teachers thought. Anything I was able to accomplish brought me back to Saturday mornings before breakfast when I was so excited for the newest episode to play. Children, especially, learn a lot through the media. Finally, seeing myself on screen automatically brought excitement to me. I see myself as a symbol of achievement. I was watching a show all about a strong, intelligent, black female, something I promised to older Victoria from a young age that I would become. Now that I am older, I can recognize the same spark in my younger sisters when they watch Moon Girl and Devil
