Have you ever walked into a school where all of the students are dressed in similar ways such as no yoga pants or no holes in their jeans? High schools, restaurants, workplaces, and the military all use dress codes for many reasons. Some people believe dress codes are beneficial while others think just the opposite. Dress codes helps let students feel equal, it helps students not question what is appropriate to wear and what is not, and it helps the school by reflecting itself as a safe and comfortable working environment for everyone.
Dress codes help everyone feel equal. If people are limited to what they can and cannot wear there is not as much segregation between students. People will still have nicer things than others when it comes to individualism, but for the most part, everyone will feel equal. Students will also not compare themselves to others as harshly, improving their self-esteem and self-confidence levels. Academics will then, in turn, improve because students will be focused on their schoolwork instead of what everyone around them is wearing or what the latest trend is. A more serious school atmosphere will then be created, emphasizing academics and everyone will feel equal to one another.

To feel united they want everyone to look as one. This means wearing something somewhat similar. If students are allowed to wear hats or baggy clothing they could possibly hide weapons that could harm others because they are not visible to administrators. Studies have shown that dress codes reduce the prevalence of certain behaviors which are expressed through wardrobe; such as violence or promiscuity. Good behavior would then improve and membership in gangs would be denoted. With both of these things, the school atmosphere would feel safe for both students and
