How does the type of insulator effect how long ice can stay at freezing temperature? Insulators are used every day in almost everything around us, and this experiment is going to help us better understand what insulators work better. The most common examples of where insulators are used are in buildings or ice chests. There are many types of different insulators and in this experiment, the best type of insulators will be discovered by testing to see how they compare to each other when keeping water in a frozen state.
Insulators are usually characterized by their inability to conduct electricity, but one journal titled "What Makes An Insulator Different From A Metal?" showed that what schools teach as the science behind this is way oversimplified,

In a peer-reviewed article called "Application Of Nanotechnology-Based Thermal Insulation Materials In Building Construction", the reader can come to understand what nanotechnology is and how it works. Nanotechnology is conducting science, engineering, and technology on a nanoscale. In some cases it is used in architecture because of its ability to make structures more durable, have more compressive strength, and higher tensile and bending strength. This nanotechnology is not only used for building structures but also coatings. These nanotechnology based coatings are more durable against corrosion and fires while also being more self-cleaning (17-18). Even though these materials are not readily available today, scientists that are working with the nanotechnology are finding ways to help the architects that are still unsure of this new technology know that this is a great advancement in the world (17). Then Bozsaky goes on to talk about how with normal insulators heat is still able to get transferred through conduction, radiation, and heat flux but with the nanotech, at least one or two of those can be eliminated or hindered. Because those ways can be slowed or stopped, the time that ice can stay at its freezing state will greatly increase (Bozsaky 18). With more testing from these scientists, ways to make this more practical for everyday people could come up and this nanotech insulation could make a life-changing effect on some people who live in extreme hot or cold
