Intermediate sanctions are a very useful and effective tool when it comes to rehabilitation and punishing criminals. There are many effective ways to use intermediate sanctions, these different ways are given based on the crime that was committed. One very effective way to help criminals is the use of day reporting centers. These centers are used to monitor the behaviors and actions of offenders. The offenders report everyday or almost everyday to the centers so they can monitor things like, how sober they are, their whereabouts, and their schedules. These centers usually monitor drug and substance abusers, but they can be used for other types of offenders as well. When an offender is sentenced to community service this means that the offender is required to provide unpaid work for tax-supported or nonprofit agencies. This is useful because the offenders must give their time and work on a project and not get paid for it. Community service can make an offender understand that their actions have consequences. Community service also benefits the community because its unpaid labor, therefor building value to the community without cost.
