Why Are Texas A & M Traditions Important

To me, traditions are strong examples of not only our relationships with our friends and families, but also a great representation of our heritage and culture. In my family, we have an abundance of tradition as a result of my parents being alumni of the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas, or as you may know it, Texas A&M. Along with those traditions, we also uphold traditions from some of the common holidays celebrated in the Christian faith, such as Christmas and Easter. Some may have a hard time recognizing the traditions in their lives, but in reality, traditions are everywhere, but sometimes they go unnoticed to the untrained eye.

Tradition is probably the main reason I love Texas A&M so much. A school with that most would consider the richest in tradition and heritage, it’s almost impossible to escape the “Aggie culture”. You could basically stand in the center of the main campus, close your eyes, spin around, point in a random direction, and you’d most likely be pointing to something with a story behind it. As I contemplated what to write during this essay, I’ve realized some of the traditions I take part in during my daily life. Some can be very simple, while others require deep thought to notice. One example of a tradition that you wouldn’t normally recognize would be special sports rituals. This summer, my friends and I picked up the hobby of bowling. When a strike is recorded on your score sheet, it shows up as an “X”, so when either me or my friends bowl a strike, instead of a basic high five, we cross forearms to create an “X”. Traditions can be that simple, but still be very meaningful. It feels exhilarating to be noticed by your peers and a simple recognition of your improvement can nourish your relationship
