What is a veteran exactly? The dictionary states that a veteran is, “a person who has served in the military,” but I believe it’s more that. Veterans devoted their lives to fighting for their country, and even if they didn’t ever fight, they knew it was the most possible thing in the world. Without veterans, we would be in a never-ending war just sitting there, desperate for men and women like veterans to stand up. Veterans got us to where we are today. They are the past, present, and future of the country.

Veterans deserve more because they are more. That’s why we have a day to commemorate all veterans, dead or alive. The date is November 11 of every year. We celebrate to let veterans know that what they do and what they give up is very appreciated. This is a time to thank them for all they do. It’s a special day because anybody is able to show respect for veterans and thank them. I believe veterans are why we’re here today in such an updated country with a large population.

Veterans fought until we had secure freedom. These men and women went to the military not knowing if they would ever come back. We do so much like The Pledge of Allegiance and raising and lowering flags to honor freedom, though we should be doing those things to honor the people who got us that freedom.
