Did you know that 90% of Australia’s teenagers don’t participate in enough physical activity? The guidelines for physical activity state that young people should engage in moderate to vigorous intensity exercise daily and over half of Clayfield College students state that they don’t meet these guidelines in their daily lifestyle. These reasons have compelled my group to create a spartan circuit training course to help ensure that students are able to reach these guidelines.

By just participating in 60 minutes a day of physical activity, the fitness that you are engaging in will provide many benefits. According to Australia’s Physical Activity and Sedentary Behaviour Guidelines for Young People by just partaking in 1 hour of moderate to vigorous intensity physical activity it will provide many physical benefits. A range of barriers affect physical activity participation rates such as built and natural influences, attitudes and beliefs, and personal influences. Built and natural influences include the location, time and price of the activity as well as the stereotypes surrounding the activity as it could be classified as manly and not suitable for girls. The barriers created by attitudes, beliefs and personal influences include your religion, your family and friends’ opinions on the activity, your motivation to partake in exercise as well as the influence from the ‘Sit Culture’. The risks of not partaking in exercise is that in the short term you may not have strength, stamina or suppleness to be able to complete everyday activities. While the long-term effects of not doing physical activity are that you may be at a greater risk of developing diseases such as heart disease or high blood pressure as well as becoming overweight and gaining poor
