Why do you think America became imperialist? I think people wanted to become imperialist because of all the benefits of it. After the Louisiana Purchase America held a World Fair. This World Fair was the biggest ever thrown. The fair had many benefits to our nation’s income. The fair brought a lot of money to its home cities. It also allowed for manufactures to show off their new inventions. The World Fair was were the Ferris wheel was first shown. These new inventions included the “Corliss Engine, electric light, airbrakes, refrigeration, the dynamo, X-Rays, and the telephone” (“Justifying American Imperialism,” P. 103). Soon other people from all around the world started attending or were an exhibit at the fair. People were so excited to see and meet new people from across the globe. A lot of children from other nations arrived. They would hold parades and each nation at the fair was represented. Many famous people came to the convention to. Apache Chief, Geronimo, and Eskimo, Nancy Columbia were at the convention. There were a lot of representative from governments around the world. People claim to have saw William H. Taft the secretary of war at the fair. Japan, China, Russia, and Germany were a few other the nations that had representatives at the fair. Many of these Dignitary’s had congresses that were conducting business between nations. Another way the World Fair had a huge impact on Imperialism in the United States. All this excitement over foreign cultures led for America to become a major imperialist nation. People wanted to see new cultures which then led to Senators and House members to take action. These congressional people used Social Darwinism to persuade others to their cause of
