Jacob got up the next morning to return to the house. When he was looking for the apple that Emma had given him the night before he could not find it. He later found a leathery thing about the size of the gold ball that he figured must have been the apple. When he got to the school, Miss Peregrine had to talk to him. She was upset because Jacob had told the other children about his modern world. The reason Miss Peregrine does not want Jacob to tell them about his modern world because they can not leave the surrounding area or the loop as if they do they will grow old and die much quicker than if they had stayed on the island. Miss Peregrine then shared a story with Jacob of this happening to one of the girls that had been living with Miss Peregrine.
