This was accomplished mainly Rome won all 3 Punic Wars. They had proved that they were able to protect themselves. And with their “winning title” they had to become more than “just a republic”. Then, there were the 2 triumvirates that took over. Julius Caesar, Crassus, and Pompey were the 3 men involved in the triumvirates. They had emerged as victors from the civil wars, that had taken place over the next 50 years. Their combined wealth and power was enormous, and it enabled them to dominate the current political party and take over. Caesar became so stuck up, that he refused to obey the Senate. Disobeying the Senate was serious. Caesar was officially made dictator in 45 b.c. after his march on Rome had started a civil war between his forces and those of Pompey and his allies. Caesar won the war, and was in complete control of the Roman government. Caesar gave land to the poor and increased the Senate to 900 members; this weakened the power of the Senate. He introduced the solar calendar, and had plans for building projects and military campaigns. He sounded like a great ruler right? Caesar was murdered.
