Why Did Salva Survive In A Long Walk To Water

In the book “A Long Walk to Water,” there are several different factors that help Salva survive. Some of those things are perseverance, bravery, and connection. Without these survival factors, Salva would not be able to survive for as long as he did. Persistence is one of the survival factors that helped him survive. In the book, it says how Marial and Uncle Jewiir died. Which left Salva in a difficult situation. A quote that shows that is “Marial was gone, Uncle was gone too, murdered by those nine men” (Park, 65). This quote represents how one of Salva's friends and family in his life died. This shows how, after all his challenges, he used his persistence, which got him through every difficulty in life. As you can see, persistence is one of the survival factors that helped Salva get through life. As well as persistence, another factor that helped Salva survive was bravery.One of the times we can see this was when Salva knew that planes could be flying above with bombs at any second and it was really nerve racking for Salva but he kept going and used his bravery to get through all of the nerve wracking situations Salva goes through in A Long Walk To Water. An example of bravery is the following quote: “the fighting could be miles away- or a plane carrying bombs could fly overhead at any moment.It was hard work running back and forth between those weaving.But Salva found that the work was helping him feel a little bit better” (Park,43). This quote shows an example of survival because he was scared of the bombs flying above him, but it makes it feel better when he helps, even though it is hard work which shows bravery.
