I say suggest that had Socrates chosen to escape, the Athenian population would had viewed him as a coward, thereby lessening his support, and in turn reinforce the government’s power. By choosing death, the people of Athens would have more likely be motivated by his actions. Therefore, I can conclude that Socrates made the correct decision by choosing death, which would have otherwise contradicted with his principles and reneged his “social contract” with the state. Antigone also follows the same path.
