Imagine waking up for school in your new home. You and your family moved to Texas for a new start and the cheap price of the land. As you walk towards your parents, you notice something off. Your mom is crying as your dad walks out of the door with soldiers and a gun. This happened to very many fathers and husbands in Texas, but not only did men fight, teenagers fought too. They have so much to risk, so why would Texans fight in the Civil War? Texans fought for many reasons, but the main three are because they wanted to protect slavery, they respected Texas, and they wanted state rights. This quote represents many Texans’ opinions to allow Texas to have rights as a state. Most all of Texans agree with State rights and fought to keep them. Despite the families Texans had at home, they fought out of love and respect to take care of Texas and everyone in it. A Texan named John Wesley Rabb fought in the Civil war along with about 65,000 others. “...I wanto be home so bad…” he wrote to his mother, “...I think that most of the rangers want to be in Texas…” (document d). Rabb served in the military for about 4.5 years in the cavalry unit, taking pride in all he did for Texas. Rabb, like many other Texans, fought desperately for his family to survive this devastating war. Although Texans lost, they fought with love to keep Texas safe, preserve slavery, and keep State Rights. Texans were a very strong force that almost led them to defeat the Union, but sadly the Union overpowered them. Texas along with the South fought desperately and long for success. The Union still had a win, but Texas had something nobody else did,
